Protecting privacy while trust develops

Review what you share and recognise requests that deserve caution.

Separate public and private information

Before posting, consider whether a detail reveals your home, workplace or daily routine. Check photographs as well as written text. Share only what you are comfortable making visible to the audience concerned. Another person’s willingness to reveal private information does not create a duty for you to match it.

Watch for pressure and inconsistencies

Be cautious if a new contact urgently requests money, account details or private documents. Claims of an emergency do not establish trust. Notice repeated inconsistencies and attempts to move the conversation away from the platform before you feel ready. You can stop responding without proving that a person has acted dishonestly.

Use available controls

Review the platform’s current privacy options and community rules. Blocking and reporting can help you manage unwanted contact, although no tool guarantees safety. Keep a record of concerning messages if you need to report them. Avoid sharing another member’s private messages or photographs publicly without permission.
